Academic Committee

The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, through the regulations described in the Doctoral Model of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (approved by the Governing Council of the UPM in its session held on 21 December 2011), establishes both the composition and the main functions of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programmes (CAPD), specifically the CAPD is regulated in its articles 4, 5 and 6.

 Article 4. The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme:

All doctoral programmes shall have an academic committee chaired by the Programme Coordinator and composed of the UPM professors participating in the programme.

 Article 5. Functions of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme:

The functions of the Academic Committees of the Doctoral Programmes at the UPM are:

  1. Admission of students to the programme
  2. To organise the activities of each programme in accordance with that established by the Steering Committee of the Doctoral School, by the School and Faculty Boards or by the Board of the Research Centre or Institute.
  3. To carry out all the functions assigned in the Regulations for the Preparation and Assessment of the doctoral thesis in accordance with the rules established by the Management Committee of the Doctoral School, by the School and Faculty Boards or by the Council of the Research Centre or Institute.

 

Article 6. Participating teaching staff:

  1. The following are considered to be professors of a UPM doctoral programme:
  • All those UPM doctoral professors who are directing or have directed a thesis in the doctoral programme in the last 5 years.
  • Doctors linked to the PhD programme who are supervising a thesis even if they are not UPM professors.
  1. Additionally, collaborators may be linked to the doctoral programme to carry out activities in the programme other than the supervision of theses in the programme. These collaborators will not form part of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme.
  2. All the teaching staff of a doctoral programme must hold a doctoral degree, without prejudice to the possible collaboration in certain specific activities of other persons or professionals by virtue of their relevant qualifications in the corresponding field of knowledge.
